Digitally adjustable potentiometers are replacing the old-fashioned mechanical versions in electronic systems, such as LCD, TFT, Power-Supply Calibration, Instrumentation, and the popular audio applications. As a simpler and less expensive version of the digital-to-analog converter (DAC), digital pot produces an analog output in the form of a variable resistance. Available in volatile and nonvolatile types, the digital approach has many advantages. In addition to its attractive small form factor, digital pots are insensitive to dust, dirt, and moisture, which are detrimental to mechanical pots.  
FMD offers a wide selection of low-to-high resolution digitally controlled potentiometers, also known as digital potentiometers, or digpots, in single dual and quad configurations. Available in both linear and non-linear tapers, these digital potentiometers replace mechanical potentiometers and trim resistors in applications where digital control alllows microprocessor interfacing and extended functionality.
